What did you want to be when you grew up?

For some of us, the answer may have been clear: a teacher, a doctor, a footballer or perhaps even a pop star! But for many children, the world of work is still a bit of a mystery. There are hundreds of careers they may never have heard of, and countless possibilities they haven't yet imagined.

That’s where our Bright Futures assemblies come in.

We want to give our children the opportunity to discover the huge variety of careers that are out there and, most importantly, to meet people who can show them that their future really can be whatever they want it to be.

 

We have been incredibly lucky to welcome some fantastic speakers to school through our Bright Futures talks, including pilots, engineers and doctors, just to name a few!

Our children love hearing about what people do, finding out how they got into their careers and, of course, asking plenty of questions. Sometimes it’s the things they discover along the way that really capture their imagination.

There is something particularly special about hearing these stories from people who are part of our own school community. When children see a parent, carer or familiar face standing in front of them and talking about their career, it can help make those possibilities feel much more real — and much more achievable.

 

We are keen to hear from people with interesting, exciting or unusual jobs who would be happy to come into school and tell our children all about what they do.

Perhaps you work with animals, travel the world, make films, design things, fly planes, investigate mysteries, work in sport or create amazing technology. Maybe your job is one that the children have never even heard of!

Our Bright Futures talks take place during assembly and last around 10–15 minutes. They are fun and sometimes interactive, with plenty of time for the children to ask questions. Speakers are very welcome to bring props, equipment or anything else that helps bring their job to life, and presentations can also be sent to school in advance.

We would love to continue building on our fantastic Bright Futures assemblies and introduce our children to even more inspiring people and careers.
