Last year, in a bid to raise literacy levels, the government released new criteria for phonics programmes used in schools and launched a new process for validation of these programmes. Based on this announcement, we wanted to ensure that the phonics scheme that we used catered for our children, so we made the decision to create our own programme.

Over the last 12 months, we have implemented this into our curriculum and submitted the programme to the DfE to be validated. Last week, we received the fantastic news that our Phonic Steps programme has been approved by the government and made available for other schools to purchase as well. Phonics Steps is one of the 45 approved Government schemes.

As a school, we are very grateful for our skilled teachers who have created Phonic Steps to ensure the best education for our children as they learn to read.
