Year 2
Welcome to Year 2
I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our 6- and 7-year-old children enjoy throughout the year.
In English, the children read a variety of exciting and engaging texts which help them to develop their comprehension skills and provide the basis for a wide range of written tasks. In Maths, they build their understanding of place value, the four operations, shape, measure and fractions through problem-solving and reasoning. In Science, the children explore the properties of materials, investigate habitats and learn what plants need in order to grow and thrive. In History, topics such as Remembrance Day, the Great Fire of London and significant historical figures help the children to develop a sense of the past, while in Geography they travel around the globe learning about the continents and the wider world. Art lessons develop skills in line and colour using various media inspired by both modern and classic artists.
Throughout the year, workshops help bring learning to life such as a Great Fire of London workshop, drama and storytelling sessions and music and dance workshops. A real highlight of the year is our visits to the Aldershot Military Museum and the Lookout Discovery Centre. These trips offer hands-on experiences to further extend our history and science learning, while a nature walk at the Lookout Centre also provides the perfect setting for still life sketching.
Thank you for visiting our page and I hope you enjoy seeing what an exciting time we have in Year 2.
